5 Mood Swings for 5 was written by Fergus O'Carroll for the Brass Quintet of the Royal Irish Academy of Music.  It was performed recently at a Chamber Music competition (which the group won) and was commended by the adjudicator and extremely well received by the audience. It is a fun piece in 5 short movements (totaling 8 minutes) which highlights the ability of all of the instruments in turn.  It was the most popular brass piece for some time at the website www.sibeliusmusic.com, where it was available during a trial period for free download.  I have finally taken the advice of the reviewers and am now charging for the music. The movements are as follows:

1. Confused
2 Romantic
3. Playful
4. Forlorn
5. Happy

Total Timing is 8 minutes.

The instrumentation is for 2 Trumpets, French Horn, Trombone  and Tuba

This piece is also available as a Wind Quintet.

Belting brass!
Superb! This short suite is inventive, never boring, some great melodies, colourful and diverse harmonies, but always accessible. What more could you ask for?

Fantastic writing!
This piece is absolutely wonderful! I must say that I love the 'Forlum' movement, it just goes to show what a lovely sound a brass quintet can make. Plus the trademark witty Tuba solo kept me smiling all the way through. I've found it very hard to write for brass quintet, but you make it sound easy! I shall definitely show this to my quintet and give it a go. And for God's sake put a price tag on this piece, I feel like I'm stealing from you! But give it a couple of days - I've got to print it out first!

Terrific Piece
A most enjoyable work. I followed it through from beginning to end with a smile on my face and I can't wait to try it out with my regular brass quintet. I can't believe it's free. I will let you know if we perform it. Well done.

Nice job!
I enjoy a good brass quintet! I love the "Playful" movement.
