O’Carroll Music Publishers is proud to offer
BREAKSTONE as the first composition by an American composer in it’s
“Shareware Music” releases of works for concert band. Written by the American composer Ronal W. Follas,
BREAKSTONE is a concert overture in two contrasting parts. Opening with a Gregorian chant-like melody played by a solo
flute, the slow section of BREAKSTONE includes solos for Trumpet,
Trombone, Oboe, F Horn, Piccolo and Alto Saxophone as well as rich, full
sections for the entire band. While
the opening melody is in Mixolydian mode, the primary melody of the
faster second section is in Lydian mode.
This melody is first stated by trumpets with percussion, then by
the low winds and low brass. Following
a saxophone quartet and a restatement of the Lydian theme the brass
section majestically plays the opening theme alternating with fast,
tutti sections and BREAKSTONE ends with an exciting, dramatic gesture. Performance time- approximately 7 minutes. Sample MP3 files are available here: Breakstone Midi File is available for loading into your media player or for download. The instrumentation is Picc (3rd Flute), 2 Flutes, Oboes, Bassoons, Clars 1, 2 and 3, Bass Clar, 2 Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, 2 Horns, 3 Trumpets, 2 Trombones, Euphonium, Tuba, Timps, and 2 Percussion.
